Reflexology
Reflexology
is a specialized system of foot, and less commonly hand massage which
is used to detect and correct imbalances in the body that may be causing
illness.
It
is based on the theory that the body is divided into ten equal zones
that extend the length of the body from head to toe, and that stimulation
of an area on the foot in one zone affects other parts of the body
in the same zone.
This
therapy, while commonly practiced in the west, was first used by the
healers of ancient Egypt, Greece, and China, as well as the native
peoples of both North and South America.

Shiatsu
Shiatsu,
or pressure point massage has been practiced for centuries in Japan.
It is based on the principles of the Chinese discipline of acupuncture,
and the application of pressure to key points with the purpose of promoting
a smooth flow of energy around the body. Shiatsu pressure is applied
via the fingertips, versus the needles used in acupuncture.
What
Can Shiatsu Treat?
Shiatsu
is regularly used for problems associated with fatigue and exhaustion.
It is known to exert a calming influence, and is useful for acute pain
relief in the joints.
Therapeutic
Massage
Therapeutic
massage is effective because it is pro-biotic: it assists the normal
functioning of the body and provides an emotional safety valve to reduce
the anxiety that health problems can provoke. The soothing strokes
of a practitioner relieve both physical and emotional discomfort, and
are commonly used to encourage recovery in patients following cardiac
arrest.
